I am catching up with posting online my articles. I moved to a new place and I was without fixed internet access for almost a month. I was also very busy with work and that is why I got this big delay with posting online. Though I did not skip a single day with writing my articles.
Sexual abuse is not just about the rape. It has many forms. Some of them are very subtle and kind of invisible. Somebody is doing this in front of you or you are doing it to yourself and you don't realise that you are participating in the abuse.
The problem of sexual abuse is big and affects many people around the world. How many ? I don't have exact statistics. But if we take into calculations every person who does sex for money ( and this includes prostitutes as well as is person who gets into relationship or even one night stand for some kind of financial benefits ) and then we also include every person watching porn on internet which is so easily available then we can be looking at the figures of 50% of humans in this world who participate in the sexual abuse. It doesn't matter whether it is 40 or 50 or 60%. The problem is huge. All of these people give their attention and energy towards and continue creating and participating in the pain and suffering.
I am not saying that watching an image of a naked person or even a couple having sex is "bad" and is a form of sexual abuse but there is a big difference between sex for money and making love where partners do it free willingly and as a form of self-expression and with respect for themselves and for each other. It is not difficult to detect it. It is just a matter of using the brain and common sense. Thus if you want to watch somebody having sex life or on the video then go ahead but be sure that this people are not being abused. If you are not sure then it is better that you don't participate in it. Don't take the chances. Because if the person is being abused then you participate in it and you are equally responsible for it. And I guarantee you that you don't want to face the consequences. Sooner or later you will pay for it and you will regret it.
Thus if you want to do something about the sexual abuse in the world start with yourself first. It is always the case. We must identify how we are participating in co-creating the global problem and stop it within ourselves. This is the way to go. There is no other way. Treating the symptoms will never fix the problem. And making prostitution and pornography illegal is exactly that.
There are many practical steps and solutions towards fixing this problem. For example:
- stop using porn to arouse yourself sexually. This is the first sign that you are compromising yourself and supporting sexual abuse.
- when you want to use the services of the prostitute go and give him/her money for free. Most of the prostitutes need money to buy food, clothes and other basics for themselves and their children. It is not that difficult to see the difference between the luxury prostitutes and those who are in need.
- do not make decisions about relationship based on money and/or other material benefits.
- support organizations which actively and practically work towards solving this problem.
- etc.
These are just few examples. Although the problem is really big there is always something that each of us can be. And once you really start to question it and investigate it then you will also find other ways to solve this problem effectively.
