What would happen if it was legal to sale drugs ( marijuana, cocaine, lsd etc. ) ?
One thing that is sure is that making drugs illegal doesn't stop consumption of it and people find ways to get them anyway. Thus there is a big question: "Would there be more people taking drugs if it was legal and would we have more problems related to the addiction etc. ?".
I strongly doubt it because we already have some statistics from the countries in which the sale of drugs is partly legal and the problems related to drugs are actually lesser.
Thus let's have a look at some points related to system with legal and illegal drugs:
1. Making drugs illegal makes their price on the market much higher - somebody makes huge profit and the buyers ( especially with the addiction problems ) are more inclined to commit crime and robberies to get the money for drugs.
2. Fighting the illegal drug cartels and mafia costs huge amount of money and in the end it is not effective at all because people find ways to get drugs anyway and if the money would be dedicated into the education about drugs we would be much more effective with dealing with this problem.
3. Making drugs legal and cheaper would take the power away from the drug cartels and mafia.
4. Drugs sold on the black market are quite often not clean and of bad quality which creates series of other consequences.
These are only few points point clearly out that making drugs illegal is not effective at all. But the problem is not so much with the drugs but with people taking them and whether we make them illegal or legal will not change the source of the problem which lies in people themselves.
